Tamim Iqbal Penalized for Breaching Code of Conduct in BPL
Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match between Fortune Barishal and Rangpur Riders saw a heated moment after the game, where Barishal's captain and opener Tamim Iqbal was penalized for breaching the Level 1 conduct code. Following the match, Tamim aggressively approached Alex Hales, leading to a violation of Clause 2.6 of the Code of Conduct. While there was no financial penalty, Tamim was given one demerit point, which has been added to his profile.
Although cricket is known as a gentleman's game, some players often forget this, as was seen during the tense encounter between Rangpur Riders and Fortune Barishal at the Sylhet International Stadium. After the dramatic win, when both teams were exchanging pleasantries, Tamim was visibly upset and appeared to direct harsh words at Alex Hales. He even attempted to approach Hales in an aggressive manner.
Tamim's actions were deemed a violation under Clause 2.6 for inappropriate or offensive behavior, resulting in the imposition of one demerit point. Tamim accepted the charge from the match referee, eliminating the need for a formal hearing.
Match referee Niamur Rashid Rahul, who was overseeing the high-voltage clash between Barishal and Rangpur, confirmed the penalty. The on-field umpires, Ali Arman and Asif Yakub, filed the complaint with the match referee after the match.
This penalty marks a demerit point added to Tamim's profile for breaching the Code of Conduct, with no other players receiving disciplinary action. The match referee confirmed that no other allegations against any other players were substantiated.
