In the first day of the Test against South Africa, Taijul Islam reached a significant milestone by becoming the second Bangladeshi bowler, after Shakib Al Hasan, to claim 200 Test wickets. Shakib achieved this feat in his 54th Test, while Taijul reached the milestone in just 48 Tests.
Before the start of this Test, Taijul had taken 196 wickets. In his 48th Test match, he excelled by taking four of South Africa's first five wickets. He secured his 200th wicket by dismissing Matthew Britz, thus joining Shakib in the exclusive 200-wicket club.

Taijul is now the second-highest wicket-taker for Bangladesh in Test cricket, and it will be interesting to see how his tally stands at the end of this Test against South Africa.
Shakib Al Hasan set the record for being the first Bangladeshi bowler to take 200 Test wickets during the series against the West Indies in November 2018.
