Sylhet Strikers Triumph Over Dhaka Capitals in a Crucial Battle
In a clash between two teams at the bottom of the table, Sylhet Strikers emerged victorious, securing their first win in three matches after a series of defeats. The match marked a crucial victory for Sylhet in front of their home crowd, while Dhaka Capitals, already reeling from a string of losses, faced yet another defeat, leaving their captain Litton Das disappointed.
Dhaka Capitals, led by Thisara Perera, are still struggling to find a way out of their losing streak. The newly formed franchise team has now faced six consecutive losses in this year's BPL.
Winning the toss and opting to bat first, Dhaka Capitals posted a total of 193 runs for the loss of six wickets. Litton Das, who has been struggling in recent matches, returned to form with a magnificent knock of 73 runs from 43 balls, including 10 fours and 1 six. This marked his first half-century of the season. Munim Shahriar also contributed with a solid 52 runs. The pair put on a partnership of 129 runs, guiding Dhaka to a competitive total. Sabbir Rahman added a cameo of 23 runs from 10 balls, while Thisara Perera scored 18 from 9 balls.
Chasing a challenging target of 194 runs, Sylhet Strikers’ innings got off to a rocky start. Rahkeem Cornwall was dismissed for a golden duck, falling victim to a leg before wicket (LBW) decision by Mustafizur Rahman. Another opener, George Munsey, couldn’t make a mark either, departing for 11 runs after 8 balls, caught off Abu Zayed Rahi.
However, Sylhet’s fortunes turned around thanks to a brilliant knock from number three batter, Zakir Hasan. Playing some exquisite strokes, Zakir reached his fifty off just 25 balls, with 7 fours and 2 sixes. Despite a few wickets falling, including Aaron Jones (14) and Nahidul Islam (11), Zakir's steady performance helped build momentum. Zaker Ali Onik and Rony Talukdar also played vital roles, contributing to the chase.
In the final stages, Ariful Haque took charge, hitting an explosive knock to finish off the chase, leading Sylhet to victory. Sylhet Strikers clinched the win, chasing down the target with ease and leaving Dhaka Capitals to rue yet another missed opportunity.
