Sunrisers Hyderabad ensures Play off for the first time since 2020
Sunrisers Hyderabad ensures Play off for the first time since 2020
Yesterday, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans faced off in an IPL 2024 match. However, the match in Hyderabad was washed out due to rain, resulting in both teams sharing points. Despite the shared point, Sunrisers Hyderabad finds solace, as this point ensures their place in the playoffs, securing a spot in the top four.
Currently, Sunrisers Hyderabad has 15 points, with one more match to play against Punjab Kings on May 19.
For the first time since the 2020 IPL, Sunrisers Hyderabad has qualified for the playoffs. In the intervening years, they were not only far from the playoffs but were among the bottom teams. They finished last in both 2021 and 2023 and eighth in the 2022 IPL.
While their playoff spot is already confirmed, Sunrisers Hyderabad still has a chance to finish in the top two. For this to happen, they need to win their final match and hope Rajasthan Royals lose to Kolkata Knight Riders.
On the other hand, Gujarat Titans have seen their last two matches washed out by rain, first against Kolkata Knight Riders and now against Sunrisers Hyderabad. They ended the IPL with 12 points, placing them third from the bottom in the points table. Their situation could worsen if Punjab Kings defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final match.
