South Africa women appoint Mandla Mashimbyi as new head coach
Mandla Mashimby has been appointed as the new head coach of the South Africa Women's cricket team, as confirmed by Cricket South Africa on Friday. Mashimby, who has experience working with the South African men's team as a bowling coach and assistant coach, brings a wealth of coaching expertise to his new role.
In an official statement, Cricket South Africa mentioned that Mashimby would focus on preparing the team for international competitions, implementing performance strategies, and fostering a culture of excellence and pride within the team.
Although Mandla Mashimby never played international cricket, he had a successful professional cricket career with Titans, Knights, and Grecoas. His playing career was cut short in 2010 due to persistent knee injuries. Over his career, Mashimby played 44 one-day matches and 39 first-class matches.
At 44 years old, Mashimby has had significant coaching success, leading Titans to multiple championships. Most recently, he served as the fast bowling coach for the Paarl Royals in the SAT-T20 league. Mashimby will now take over the role of head coach from Dillon du Preez, the interim head coach of the South Africa Women’s team.
Upon his appointment, Mashimby expressed his deep respect and humility in taking on the role of head coach of the Proteas Women’s team. "I accept this role with great respect and humility. I am fully aware of the expectations that come with this esteemed responsibility," said Mashimby.
Reflecting on his time with the Titans, he added, "As a coach, the exceptional opportunities provided by Titans Cricket have been invaluable. Their unwavering support over the past eleven years has played a crucial role in my professional growth and development."
With his leadership and experience, South Africa Women’s team will look forward to a promising future under his guidance.
