Shoriful Islam Reflects on Exclusion from Champions Trophy and BPL Form
Shoriful Islam, once a regular feature in Bangladesh’s national cricket team, has been left out of the squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy, primarily due to injury and poor form. Currently playing for Chattogram Kings in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Shoriful initially struggled to find his best rhythm. However, on Thursday, he picked the match against Sylhet Strikers as the perfect opportunity to regain his form.
In an outstanding performance, Shoriful claimed 4 wickets for just 5 runs against Sylhet, demonstrating the kind of bowling that could have earned him a spot in the Champions Trophy squad had it come earlier. Despite missing out on the international squad, Shoriful expressed no regrets. During a press conference, he said, "No, no, whatever Allah has written in my destiny will happen. It's not about before or after. No regrets. Allah has perhaps written something better for me in my fate, InshAllah."
When asked if he felt bad about missing out on the Champions Trophy, Shoriful replied, "No, Alhamdulillah, I’m not upset. Alhamdulillah, I’m very happy. Whatever Allah has in my destiny will happen. I trust in Allah."
Shoriful also shared his perspective on embracing both good and bad times in life. "I always think that everyone has both good and bad times in life. I want to enjoy both. If you break down during tough times, even more will come. I want to accept whatever comes my way."
At the start of the BPL, Shoriful was not in the best form and was struggling to bowl as effectively as he usually does. Explaining the reasons for his struggles, he said, "After the injury, my effort was a bit low. My body was falling behind. I worked on that in practice."
Shoriful’s performance against Sylhet is a reminder of his talent and resilience, and his positive outlook towards his career is something that will surely help him bounce back stronger, irrespective of the setbacks.
