After the ongoing Test series against South Africa, Najmul Hossain Shanto has decided he no longer wants to be the captain of the Bangladesh team. He has communicated this decision to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). However, on the eve of the Chattogram Test, Taijul Islam, who appeared at the press conference, stated that he is unaware of the developments regarding Shanto's resignation.
Shanto has been captain for less than eight months. If he remains firm in his decision, the BCB will need to find a new captain. Although Taijul has expressed his willingness to take on the captaincy, he is not informed about Shanto's desire to step down.
Regarding Shanto's resignation, Taijul commented, "Actually, I haven’t heard anything about this. It’s not my part to know. I don’t have accurate information on this matter."
He added, "There hasn’t been a team meeting discussing who the next captain will be. I really don’t know, brother."
With rumors of a captaincy resignation circulating mid-series, Taijul was asked about the potential impact on the team. He responded, "This is a team game. What matters is how the team performs. Some may be affected, while others can remain focused and continue their work. I always try to stay focused on my job. When such things happen in the team, I don’t know how others take it; everyone has a different mindset. This is a deep question, and honestly, I don’t have an answer. The management or board meetings do not include me or the players. Who the captain is, is not really our part."
