The Ireland women's cricket team will visit Bangladesh for the first time to play a white-ball series. The title sponsor of this series will be Senora, and the series will be powered by Ruchi. The sponsors were announced at a press conference held on Tuesday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
The series between Bangladesh and Ireland has been named ‘Senora Ireland Women’s Tour of Bangladesh 2024, Powered by Ruchi’. Representatives from the sponsors, including Dr. Jesmin Zaman, Head of Marketing at Square Toiletries Limited, Md. Imtiaz Firoz, Head of Marketing at Square Food and Beverage Limited, and Ajay Kumar Kundu, CEO of MediaCom Limited, were present at the press conference.
From the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), the following were present: Director Fahim Sinha, Nazmul Abedin, Head of the Women’s Wing Kazi Habibul Bashar Suman, and others.
BCB Director Nazmul Abedin Fahim mentioned, “We haven’t done enough in the past to strengthen women’s cricket. However, now we have taken the initiative to build a pipeline. We have appointed one of the best coaches in the country, Sarwar Imran, as the coach for the Under-19 women’s cricket team. The Under-19 team is being prepared through a camp at BKSP. We are also planning to work with the Under-16 team. We want our women cricketers to play at least 40-50 matches every year. If we can achieve this, the standard of women’s cricket will improve rapidly, and we will be able to build better teams in the future.”
At the press conference, BCB representatives thanked Senora and Ruchi for sponsoring the series. A representative from Senora thanked the BCB and expressed their commitment to further involvement in the development of women’s cricket in the country. They also highlighted their efforts to ensure hygiene for women during their menstrual period by providing safe and healthy sanitary napkins.
It is worth noting that the Irish women’s team will arrive in Bangladesh on November 22. The first ODI of the series will be held on November 27, followed by the next two on November 30 and December 2, at the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla Stadium. Additionally, three T20Is of the series will be held at the Sylhet International Stadium on December 5, 7, and 9.
