In Visakhapatnam, Delhi Capitals faced a significant defeat, losing by a hefty margin of 106 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders. Initially, Kolkata set a target of 272 runs after losing 7 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Delhi, in response, faced a stumble as they lost their way in the 18th over. Sunil Narine, scoring 85 runs off 39 balls, clinched the Man of the Match award for his unbeaten performance. With this victory, Kolkata remains undefeated in three consecutive matches.
Winning the toss, Kolkata opted to bat first, a decision that proved fortunate for them. Narine, along with Phil Salt, hinted at a promising start. However, Salt bid farewell in the 5th over, leaving the team at 60 runs. Despite Salt's departure after scoring 18 runs off 12 balls, Narine remained steadfast.
Partnering with Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Narine formed a partnership of 104 runs. Delhi's stadium witnessed a barrage of fours and sixes. Narine bid adieu after scoring 164 runs off 104 balls, leaving Kolkata at 272 runs, with only the 13th over remaining. Windies' batsman showcased an impactful innings, with 7 fours and 7 sixes combined.
Angkrish certainly lacked consistency. Scoring 54 runs off 27 balls, Anrich Nortje became his prey. Andre Russell continued his stormy performance today, alongside Rinku Singh. Despite Kolkata's efforts, they managed to halt Delhi at 272 runs.
The innings began with a brisk start for Delhi. However, after the first wicket fell at 21 runs, followed by Prithvi Shaw's dismissal, batting lineup stumbled. Michel Marsh, Abhishek Porrel, and David Warner returned one after another at 26, 27, and 33 runs respectively.
Rishabh Pant and Tristan Stabb's attempt to stabilize the situation proved futile. Their efforts only reduced the target, but they lost their wickets too. Both batsmen fell victim to Varun Chakravarthy's traps. Pant scored 55 runs off 25 balls, while Stabb's inning concluded at 54 runs off 32 balls.
Subsequent batsmen also departed with single-digit scores. The innings concluded at 166 runs for 7 wickets at 17.2 overs.
For Kolkata, Vaibhav Arora and Varun Chakravarthy claimed three wickets each.
