After being whitewashed by New Zealand at home, Indian captain Rohit Sharma has taken full responsibility for his team's disappointing performance. Rohit admitted that he couldn't lead the team effectively against the Kiwis and also acknowledged his own struggles with the bat.
At the end of the series, Rohit candidly stated, "This is the worst phase of my career. I take full responsibility for the three-match loss at home. As captain, I failed to lead the team properly, and I wasn’t in my best form with the bat either."
Despite holding the top spot in the World Test Championship standings, India has now slipped to second place following the defeat to New Zealand. India’s next Test series is against Australia, where they’ll need to secure a 4-1 victory in the five-match series to keep their hopes of reaching the final alive.
Rohit knows that facing the top-ranked Australian team won’t be easy. However, he hopes to draw on the confidence gained from their recent series win against Bangladesh. "Playing in Australia will be challenging," Rohit said, "but we’re going in with confidence from our last two tours there."
Throughout the series against New Zealand, Rohit’s own form mirrored the team’s struggles, with his bat yielding only one half-century in five innings and a total of just 39 runs in the remaining innings.
