Rohit Sharma Dismisses Retirement Speculations, Aims to Continue Playing Aggressively
Rohit Sharma has put all retirement rumors to rest, expressing his desire to continue playing in an aggressive style. Following India’s victory in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy in Dubai, the Indian captain spoke out, even leaving the door open for a possible appearance in the 2027 ODI World Cup.
There had been speculations that Rohit Sharma might retire after winning the Champions Trophy. However, after clinching the trophy, he refrained from discussing retirement. Instead, his words clearly indicated his intent to keep playing.
Rohit Sharma became the first-ever captain in ICC tournaments to win the Player of the Match award in a Champions Trophy final. Amid celebrations, he was called upon to face the media, where questions regarding his future were inevitable. Rohit answered in his usual composed manner.
With two years still left before the 2027 ODI World Cup, and as Rohit approaches his 38th birthday, it seemed uncertain whether he would still be active in the international circuit by the time the next World Cup takes place. By then, he would be close to 40 years old. However, Rohit made it clear that he has no plans of stepping away from ODI cricket anytime soon, saying, “I am not leaving ODI cricket. I have no plans for the future. I will continue as things are going.”
Rohit Sharma has already created a record for the most consecutive wins by an Indian captain in ICC tournaments. With victories in the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, he has led India to 13 consecutive wins, breaking the previous record held by Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
