Rajasthan Royals returned to victory, Punjab faces another defeat
Rajasthan Royals added another win to their tally in the swinging pendulum of fortunes. They bounced back from their previous loss to secure a convincing victory against Punjab Kings on Saturday night. Punjab set a target of 147 runs after losing 8 wickets in their designated 20 overs. In response, Rajasthan chased down the target with 7 wickets in hand, within 19.5 overs.
Although the target wasn't too high, Rajasthan Royals didn't have it easy. The start was steady with openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tanush Kotian showing composure. Jaiswal scored 39 runs off 28 balls, contributing significantly to the innings. However, despite efforts from Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag, the innings didn't see big scores. Samson scored 18 runs off 14 balls, while Parag managed 23 runs off 18 balls before losing their wickets. Even Dhruv Jurel only managed to score 6 runs.
At 17.2 overs, Rajasthan was at 115 runs with 5 wickets down.
During the critical phase, the responsibility fell on the shoulders of Shimron Hetmyer to steer the team towards victory. Hetmyer executed his role effectively, smashing two sixes in the last over bowled by Arshdeep Singh, ensuring victory for Rajasthan. This crucial over saw two sixes coming off the fifth and sixth balls when Rajasthan needed two runs from two balls.
Despite losing partners like Rovman Powell and Keshav Maharaj in the final over, Hetmyer's performance sealed the win for Rajasthan without much trouble.
Earlier, after losing the toss, Punjab Kings faced some instability in their top order. Atharva Taide and Jonny Bairstow returned with just 15 runs between them. Prabhsimran Singh also failed to make a significant contribution, scoring just 10 runs. Even Sam Curran's bat didn't create much impact.
While Jitesh Sharma managed to score some runs, there wasn't much difference in terms of runs and balls. He scored 29 runs off 24 balls. Liam Livingstone and Ashutosh Sharma contributed some runs towards the end. Livingstone scored 21 runs off 14 balls, while Ashutosh Sharma scored 31 runs off 16 balls.
Ultimately, Punjab Kings finished their innings at 147 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. Avesh Khan and Keshav Maharaj from Rajasthan both took two wickets each.
