Police Snipers Deployed In New York Stadium
For the first time in history, the Cricket World Cup has arrived in New York. To ensure the utmost security for players and fans, heightened measures have been implemented at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium. Police snipers are positioned around the stadium to provide protection.
The Nassau County Police Department is conducting a massive operation to ensure that matches held at the Long Island venue from June 3-12 conclude without any incidents, according to the BBC. Special measures, including snipers and SWAT teams, have been deployed to prevent any potential threats from IS-aligned groups. Plainclothes police officers will also be working inside the stadium. Additionally, four drop-in pitches are being monitored by narcotics division officers who have been reassigned for the World Cup.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) issued a statement to BBC Sport, emphasizing that, "Ensuring the safety and security of everyone at the event is our number one priority. We have a robust security plan in place."
The stadium, with a seating capacity of 36,000, will host a total of eight matches, including the highly anticipated India-Pakistan match on June 9. Following the World Cup, the stadium is scheduled to be dismantled.
The meticulous security arrangements reflect the importance placed on maintaining a safe and enjoyable experience for all involved in this historic event.
