England captain Phil Salt will replace the injured Jos Buttler for the T20 series against Australia. Limited-overs captain Buttler sustained an injury during practice before the start of The Hundred, which has now ruled him out of national team assignments.
Jos Buttler has been omitted from England's T20 series against Australia and might also miss the subsequent five-match ODI series. In Buttler's absence, Phil Salt will take on the captaincy role in the T20s.
Since England's loss to India in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup on June 27, Buttler has not played any international matches. He was injured during preparations for The Hundred in July, causing him to miss the tournament.
However, England cricket is hopeful that Buttler will be able to participate in the latter part of the ODI series. This is Buttler's third injury in the past four years. He may also consider stepping away from wicketkeeping duties to maintain his fitness.
Jamie Overton has been called up as a replacement in the T20 squad. Jordan Cox, who is part of the Test squad, has been added to the ODI squad as a cover.
The three-match T20 series will begin on September 11, followed by a five-match ODI series starting on September 19 at Trent Bridge.
England T20 Squad:
Phil Salt (Captain), Jofra Archer, Jacob Bethell, Brydon Carse, Jordan Cox, Sam Curran, Josh Hall, Will Jacks, Liam Livingstone, Sakib Mahmood, Dan Mousley, Adil Rashid, Jamie Overton, Reece Topley, John Turner.
