Phil Salt confirmed as wicketkeeper for West Indies T20Is
After a four-month break, Jos Buttler has returned to England’s T20 squad for the series against the West Indies. Although recovered from his injury, he will only play as a batsman, leaving wicketkeeping duties to Phil Salt.
Buttler was injured during the T20 World Cup semifinals and hasn’t played since. In his absence, Salt took on the wicketkeeping role in the first two ODIs against the West Indies. Now, even with Buttler's return, Salt is expected to continue as wicketkeeper for the T20 series.
England and the West Indies will face off in the first T20 match on November 10 in Bridgetown. Salt shared his thoughts on the role, saying, “It’s not something I’ve done a lot recently for England, but I enjoy wicketkeeping. I believe I can do the job well for the team.”
Buttler, who plans to field at mid-off, commented, “I’m actually stepping back from the gloves. I’ll be at mid-off and see how it feels. If it benefits my captaincy, I’m willing to embrace the change.”
It’s worth noting that Buttler has served as a wicketkeeper in 106 T20 matches throughout his career. In comparison, Phil Salt has kept wickets in 13 matches across all formats for England.
