New Controversy Surrounds Champions Trophy: India Reluctantly Rejects Pakistan's Name on Jerseys
The 2025 Champions Trophy is set to begin next month, and two-time champions India have finally announced their squad. However, a fresh controversy has emerged, with Rohit Sharma's team reportedly refusing to include the host nation Pakistan's name on their jerseys for the tournament.
India will be fielding a squad consisting of seasoned players for the Champions Trophy. Although Pakistan is the host, the tournament will be held in a hybrid model, with all of India's matches scheduled to be played in Dubai. This includes one semifinal, and if India makes it to the final, that too will be held in Dubai.
In a surprising move, India has decided not to include the name of the host country, Pakistan, on their jerseys, despite it being a mandatory requirement for the host country's name to appear. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has expressed reluctance to adhere to this condition.
India is placed in Group B for the Champions Trophy, alongside Pakistan, New Zealand, and Bangladesh. India's matches are scheduled as follows: February 20 against Bangladesh, February 23 against Pakistan, and March 2 against New Zealand.
