The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced that Najmul Hossain Shanto will continue as the captain of the Bangladesh Test team until the end of the 2025–2027 ICC World Test Championship cycle.
Since taking over as Test captain in 2023, Shanto has led Bangladesh in 14 matches. According to a BCB press release, under his leadership the team has shown steady improvement and consistent competitive performances.
BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul said the board has full confidence in Shanto’s leadership qualities and his vision for Bangladesh’s red-ball cricket. “Shanto has demonstrated a deep understanding of Test cricket, composure, and responsibility. The team has become more confident under his leadership. We believe that maintaining continuity in leadership will further strengthen the team in the upcoming Test Championship cycle,” he said.
In his reaction, Najmul Hossain Shanto said, “It is a great honor for me to continue serving as the captain of the Bangladesh Test team. I am grateful to the BCB for the trust and confidence they have placed in me.”
He added, “Leading my country in Test cricket is the greatest pride of my life. I will do my utmost to fulfill this responsibility with dedication. Our team is full of talent and potential, and an exciting and positive season lies ahead of us.”
