Moeen Ali retires from international cricket

Moeen Ali has announced his retirement from international cricket. His last appearance for England was in the 2024 T20 World Cup. Ali made his debut in white-ball cricket for England during the West Indies tour in 2014, and he is now ending a decade-long career in international cricket in 2024.

Moeen Ali was not included in England's squad for the upcoming white-ball series against Australia. Amidst this, he has declared his decision to step away from international cricket, though he plans to continue playing in franchise cricket and hopes to transition into coaching in the future.

In a recent interview with The Daily Mail, Moeen Ali said, "I’m 37 years old and I wasn’t picked for this month’s series against Australia. I’ve played a lot of cricket for England. It’s time for the next generation. I felt it was the right time. I’ve played my part."

Over his 10-year career, Moeen Ali played 138 ODIs and 92 T20Is for England and represented the team in a total of 68 Tests. In all three formats, he amassed 6,678 runs, including eight centuries and 28 half-centuries, and took 366 wickets.

Moeen will continue to play franchise cricket and might eventually move into coaching. Currently, he is showcasing his skills in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) as part of the defending champions, Guyana Amazon Warriors.
