Delhi Capitals have roped in Lizaad Williams as a replacement for Harry Brook. Brook withdrew himself from the upcoming IPL due to his grandmother's demise. Until now, the team had not disclosed who would replace Brook in the squad. Finally, the announcement was made for Proteas pacer Williams.
Delhi has acquired Williams for a base price of 50 lakh rupees. This pacer will be playing in the IPL for the first time. Delhi's pace department boasts several names like Avesh Khan, Anrich Nortje, Ishant Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed, and Jaydev Unadkat. Marsh will have to stay out of the field for one week due to a hamstring injury.
Delhi had also brought in Lungi Ngidi along with Williams. However, this bowler is nursing a back injury since the T20 World Cup. Consequently, he has opted for rehabilitation and withdrew himself from the IPL.
Williams has taken 106 wickets in 83 T20 matches, with an average of 19.76. He made his international debut for South Africa in 2022. He has played 2 Tests, 4 ODIs, and 11 T20I matches for the national team.
He was part of the South African team for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. He got the chance to play only one match against Bangladesh in the tournament.
In the CSA T20 Challenge, playing for Johannesburg Super Kings, he took 15 wickets in the tournament. Williams was the fourth-highest wicket-taker in the tournament.
