Litton Das Named Bangladesh T20I Captain Until 2026 World Cup
Wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das has been officially appointed as the new captain of the Bangladesh T20I team, with the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 as his tenure's target. The announcement came today from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), putting an end to weeks of speculation and discussion.
Liton will begin his captaincy with the upcoming UAE series, followed by a tour to Pakistan with a 16-member squad. The team will play two T20Is against the UAE before heading to Pakistan for five T20Is, marking a crucial preparation phase under new leadership.
The decision comes after Najmul Hossain Shanto stepped down from the T20 captaincy. Litton, who is returning from injury, now takes on the dual responsibility of form and leadership.
As part of their build-up, Bangladesh will also play preparation matches in Sharjah. All-rounder Sheikh Mehedi Hasan has been named as the vice-captain for both the UAE and Pakistan series.
