Kolkata's Easy Victory Over Delhi
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) secured a comfortable victory against Delhi Capitals, who lost 7 wickets, securing Kolkata's second position in the table. Despite a flurry of runs, Delhi faced some resistance on Monday night. Batting first, they lost 9 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs, accumulating 153 runs. In response, Kolkata easily chased down the target, losing 3 wickets in 16.3 overs.
Kolkata didn't have to exert much effort to clinch the victory. The team's opener, Phil Salt, displayed excellent form once again. His brilliant performance was evident as he played a remarkable innings of 68 runs off 33 balls against Delhi's bowlers.
Another opener, Sunil Narine, returned at 15. Rinku Singh, batting at number three, couldn't fulfill his role as he scored only 11 runs off 11 balls before getting dismissed. The remaining innings were steered by captains Shreyas Iyer, who scored 33 runs off 23 balls, and Venkatesh Iyer, who remained unbeaten with 26 runs off 23 balls, leading Kolkata to victory with 21 balls to spare.
Earlier, Kolkata's bowlers had some tough moments as Delhi managed to score some runs under pressure. Winning the toss, Kolkata opted to bat first. However, it wasn't an easy task at Eden Gardens. Within 37 runs, they lost Prithvi Shaw, Jack Fraser-McGurk, and Shai Hope.
Captain Rishabh Pant, who was expected to boost the batting, was dismissed for 27 runs by Varun Chakravarthy. Later, Varun took two more wickets, becoming the match's best performer. The next batters also came and went swiftly. Among them, Kuldeep Yadav's unbeaten batting caught attention as he scored 35 runs off 26 balls.
Besides Varun's 3 wickets, Vaibhav Arora and Harshal Patel took 2 wickets each for Kolkata Knight Riders.
