Khaled Mahmud Sujon Sets Unwanted Record of 15 Consecutive Losses as BPL Head Coach
Khaled Mahmud Sujon has now set an unwanted record in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) by losing 15 consecutive matches as a head coach. No other coach in the history of BPL has this record. After a strong showing in the previous BPL with Dhaka Dynamites, Sujon has now found himself trapped in a losing streak with Dhaka Capitals this season.
In this edition of the Bangladesh Premier League, Sujon is serving as the head coach for the new franchise Dhaka Capitals, owned by Shakib Khan. After losing all three of their matches in the Dhaka phase, the team has continued their losing streak in the Sylhet phase, bringing their total loss tally to four from four matches.
Last season, Sujon was also the head coach for another Dhaka franchise, Dhuronto Dhaka. While they started the tournament with a win against Cumilla Victorians, they went on to lose 11 consecutive matches after that. In the season before that, Sujon's team Khulna Tigers also finished near the bottom of the points table.
In the 2012 BPL, Sujon’s Chittagong Kings finished fifth, while in 2013, his Barisal Burners ended sixth. Despite his recent struggles, Sujon has had moments of success. In the 2016 BPL, he led Dhaka Dynamites to the championship.
However, since then, teams under Sujon’s leadership have consistently failed to perform well in the BPL. With today's loss against Rangpur Riders, Sujon has now become the coach with the longest losing streak in BPL history, having lost 15 consecutive matches.
