Following the conclusion of the T20 World Cup, attention is turning towards the upcoming Champions Trophy. Set to be held in Pakistan in February 2025, the Indian cricket team will be led by Rohit Sharma, as confirmed by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah. Additionally, the final of the Test Championship will also take place the same year. Jay Shah has announced that Rohit Sharma will continue to lead the Indian team in these significant tournaments.
Despite retiring from international T20 cricket, Rohit Sharma has not retired from Test and ODI formats. Therefore, Jay Shah expressed his desire to see Rohit leading the national team in the forthcoming Champions Trophy and Test Championship Final.
Under Rohit's leadership, India recently won the T20 World Cup. Furthermore, India reached the final of the ODI World Cup under his captaincy. After the loss to Australia in the final, Jay Shah stated that the team would win the T20 World Cup under Rohit’s leadership. Looking ahead, Jay Shah said:
"Our next targets are the Test World Cup Final and the Champions Trophy. I am confident that we will be champions in these two competitions under Rohit's leadership." This statement from the BCCI Secretary indicates that there are no immediate plans to change the leadership of the Indian team.
Jay Shah further added, "Congratulations to the entire team for the historic victory. I dedicate this win to coach Rahul Dravid, captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja. Within a year, we have reached the finals of three ICC tournaments. We lost the Test World Cup Final in June and then the final of the ODI World Cup. Despite winning 10 consecutive matches, we couldn't win the final. However, I always felt that we would win the T20 World Cup. I mentioned this back in June."
This solidifies Rohit Sharma's position as the captain for the upcoming major tournaments, reflecting the board’s confidence in his leadership abilities
