Ireland all-rounder Simi Singh has fallen seriously ill. The Irish Cricket Board confirmed the news on Thursday. Details of Singh's illness have not yet been fully disclosed.
The 37-year-old Simi Singh has played 35 ODIs and 53 T20Is for Ireland. He is a spin bowler and bats in the lower middle order. His last appearance for Ireland was in the T20 World Cup in Australia in 2022. He last played competitive cricket a year ago, representing Leinster Lightning in the Inter-Provincial 'List A' tournament.
In a statement signed by Cricket Ireland's CEO Warren Deutrom, it was said, "We have learned that our friend Simi Singh is currently facing a serious health situation. On behalf of Cricket Ireland and the Irish cricket community, I want to extend our best wishes and prayers to Simi."
He further added, "Simi has become a central figure in Irish cricket. He has shown the desire to succeed at every level, whether international, provincial, or club cricket. We now hope that this same determination will help him overcome his current situation."
In ODIs, Simi Singh has taken 39 wickets with an economy rate of just 3.99. In 2021, he scored an unbeaten 100 off 91 balls against South Africa.
