India All Out for 185 in Crucial Sydney Test as Australia Dominate
In a pivotal match for India’s hopes of reaching the World Test Championship final, the visitors were bowled out for just 185 runs in their first innings of the Sydney Test. Opting to bat first, India’s top order crumbled under the pressure of Australia’s fast bowlers, including Scott Boland and Mitchell Stark, as they were dismissed in a little over 72 overs.
Rohit Sharma’s India won the toss and chose to bat first, but things quickly went awry. KL Rahul was dismissed for just 4 runs early on, and at 17 runs, fellow opener Yashasvi Jaiswal followed him back to the pavilion. A brief recovery came in the form of a 40-run partnership between Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli.
However, Nathan Lyon’s bowling broke the partnership when Gill was dismissed for 20. Kohli soon followed, caught off Scott Boland’s delivery for 17 runs. By the time India had lost their fourth wicket at 72, they were in deep trouble.
Rishabh Pant tried to build a resistance, but his efforts were in vain. Ravindra Jadeja supported Pant briefly, but after scoring 26 runs, he was dismissed LBW by Mitchell Starc. Nitish Reddy was dismissed for a golden duck, and Pant’s knock of 40 runs was ended by Boland. This was the highest score in India’s first innings.
India continued to lose wickets under the Australian bowling onslaught. At the tail-end of the innings, Washington Sundar made 14 runs, and Jasprit Bumrah contributed 22 runs. In just 72.2 overs, India were bowled out for 185.
For Australia, Scott Boland was the standout performer, claiming 4 wickets, while Mitchell Starc took 3 wickets. Pat Cummins also contributed with 2 wickets.
