I don't keep track of POTM awards: Ashwin
Ravichandran Ashwin emerged as the hero of the Chennai Test, delivering an outstanding all-round performance that led India to victory. He scored 113 runs and took six wickets, earning him the Player of the Match award. Upon receiving the accolade, Ashwin expressed his excitement about the achievement.
In the first innings, India found themselves in trouble, losing six wickets for just 144 runs. Coming in at number eight, Ashwin played a crucial innings of 113 runs off 133 balls, helping India recover to post a total of 376 runs and secure a significant lead against Bangladesh.
But Ashwin's contribution didn’t end there. While he didn’t take any wickets in the first innings, he made up for it in the second innings, claiming six wickets for 88 runs.
During the award ceremony, Ashwin remarked, "Honestly, I don’t keep track of these Player of the Match awards. Every time I play in Chennai, it feels amazing. I’ve watched many Test matches and international games from the stands here. It’s great to perform in front of this crowd. I had the opportunity to fight here, and I’ve seen many teammates do this before."
He also noted his mindset as a bowler, saying, "It was a special innings, and I managed to stay strong until the second day. I live in the moment while bowling, so it comes first for me. Naturally, I think like a bowler, but I've also focused on my batting. I'm trying to manage both aspects separately."
