Heated Exchange with Fans: Khushdil Shah Involved in Post-Match Incident After ODI Defeat
Following Pakistan's third ODI defeat against New Zealand, star all-rounder Khushdil Shah was involved in a heated altercation with fans at Mount Maunganui. The incident unfolded shortly after the match, where Khushdil confronted a group of spectators in response to abusive comments and anti-Pakistan chants from the stands.
Pakistan's tour of New Zealand has been disappointing, with a 4-1 T20I series loss followed by a 3-0 ODI whitewash. Emotions boiled over after the latest defeat, prompting Khushdil to react to what he described as offensive and disrespectful behavior from the crowd.
According to a statement released by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), two individuals of Afghan origin verbally abused Pakistani players and directed offensive language toward them. Khushdil reportedly asked them to stop, but was met with further insults, which led to his reaction.
“Khushdil Shah responded after being verbally abused and provoked by two Afghan nationals in the crowd. He had initially asked them to stop, but they continued using foul language,” said the PCB.
In the third ODI, Pakistan failed to chase down New Zealand’s 264 for 8, collapsing for 221 all out, and losing the match by 43 runs. The result sealed a clean sweep for the hosts and concluded a difficult tour for the visitors.
