The team led by Najmul Hossain Shanto has returned after inflicting a humiliating whitewash on Pakistan at their home ground. Bangladesh's mission now is to take down India in the upcoming series. The Tigers’ confidence has soared after winning the series 2-0 in Pakistan, and they are preparing to achieve their first-ever Test victory against India.
Ahead of the two-match Test series starting on September 19, Bangladesh's head coach Chandika Hathurusingha spoke in Chennai about his team's strengths.
As Bangladesh arrived in Chennai for the first match, the statistics between Bangladesh and India in Tests reveal a stark contrast, with India dominating the head-to-head record. However, Hathurusingha believes that this time, Bangladesh will fight back.
Commenting on the team’s morale after winning the series in Pakistan, Hathurusingha said, "This has definitely given us a lot of confidence coming here. Setting the results aside, the way we played the series, how we handled situations, and how we bounced back after setbacks—all these contributions have instilled faith in us for this series."
He added, "This is perhaps the most rounded team for Bangladesh. We have covered many areas, and there are several fast bowlers in the squad. Our spin attack is also quite experienced, along with good batting depth. We have two specialist spin-batting players who have centuries in Tests, as well as two wicketkeeper-batsmen who are key contributors. All of this brings great balance and confidence to our team."
