England Scenting Victory at the End of Day 2
The spotlight of the cricketing world is on Lord's, where England and the West Indies are clashing in James Anderson's farewell Test. However, the match at Lord's is turning out to be one-sided. The touring West Indies are struggling to compete against the hosts. At the end of Day 2, they are already staring at defeat.
On the first day, the West Indies were bowled out for just 121 runs. In response, England ended the day's play at 189 for 3. Joe Root was unbeaten on 15, and Harry Brook was on 25. England had a lead of 68 runs.
On the second day, both Root and Brook scored fifties. Harry Brook was dismissed for exactly 50, while Joe Root contributed 68 runs.
However, it was Jamie Smith who earned praise for scoring a fifty on his debut. After Zak Crawley's 76, Smith was the second-highest scorer of the innings with 70 runs. England posted a total of 371 runs. For the West Indies, Jayden Seales took four wickets, Jason Holder and Gudakesh Motie each took two, and Alzarri Joseph claimed one.
Trailing by 250 runs, the West Indies began their second innings. In his final Test innings, James Anderson dismissed Kraigg Brathwaite (4) early on. He later took the wicket of Alick Athanaze as well. Gus Atkinson and Ben Stokes each picked up two wickets, just like Anderson.
The West Indies ended the day at 79 for 6, still trailing by 171 runs. They will resume play on the third day, which is set to be Anderson's final day in Test cricket.
