Durbar Rajshahi Secures Hat-Trick of Wins, Defeats Sylhet Strikers to Finish Group Stage Strong
After overcoming various challenges, Durbar Rajshahi wrapped up their group-stage campaign in the BPL with a solid performance. With 6 wins out of 12 matches, they secured the third position on the points table. In tonight's match, Rajshahi sealed a hat-trick of victories by defeating Sylhet Strikers by 5 wickets.
Rajshahi's victory was largely thanks to Meherob Hasan, who took 4 wickets to restrict Sylhet to a low total. His stellar performance earned him the Player of the Match award.
In a crucial match to stay in contention for the playoffs, Durbar Rajshahi capitalized on their excellent opportunity. Sylhet Strikers, batting first, could only set a target of 118 runs. Rajshahi, chasing down the modest target, initially stumbled, but Akbar Ali and Ryan Burl steadied the ship.
With 118 runs required from 120 balls, Rajshahi found themselves at a tricky 22 for 4 after 4 overs. However, Akbar Ali and Ryan Burl's partnership brought much-needed relief. Akbar Ali contributed 43 runs before being dismissed, leaving Rajshahi needing just 20 more runs for victory.
Ryan Burl remained unbeaten, guiding his team to victory with an excellent knock of 48 runs off 34 balls, including 5 fours and 2 sixes. With 19 balls to spare, Rajshahi won by 5 wickets against Sylhet.
Earlier, after losing the toss and being put to bat, Sylhet Strikers were in early trouble, losing wickets regularly. At 72 runs, they had lost 8 wickets and struggled to recover. Apart from four batters, no one else reached double digits. They ended their innings at 117 for 9. Sylhet managed to score 41 runs in the last 3 overs, but it was too late to turn things around.
Suman Khan was the top scorer for Sylhet, remaining unbeaten on 20 from 11 balls. Ahsan Vathi scored 25 from 21 balls, while Zakir Hasan made 24 from 25 balls. Zakir Ali Onik contributed 17 runs from 18 balls.
On the bowling side, Meherob Hasan led the charge for Rajshahi, claiming 4 wickets for just 15 runs in 4 overs. Death bowler Mritunjay Chowdhury also played a key role, taking 3 wickets in the match.
