Dhoni's Thunder Couldn't Save Chennai
In the end, Chennai Super Kings tasted the bitterness of defeat. Today, they lost to Delhi Capitals by 20 runs. Delhi, batting first, lost 5 wickets for 191 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. In reply, Chennai lost 6 wickets for 171 runs in their innings.
Chennai's target was 192 runs. However, they stumbled under pressure right from the beginning. Both openers, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra, departed early.
Ajinkya Rahane and Daryl Mitchell tried to steady the ship, but despite their efforts, the run rate kept dwindling. Mitchell scored 34 runs off 26 balls, while Rahane contributed 45 runs off 30 balls.
The burden of Chennai's hopes rested on Dhoni's shoulders. However, his innings of 37 runs off 16 balls couldn't save the day. On the other hand, Jadeja remained unbeaten with 21 runs off 17 balls.
Chennai needed 41 runs in the final over to win. Dhoni started the over with a boundary, followed by two more boundaries and a six to finish the over. Chennai lost the match by 20 runs.
Before Dhoni's onslaught, Delhi had a great start. Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman conceded 18 runs in his first over, indicating the aggressive intent of David Warner and Prithvi Shaw. Delhi's opening partnership of 93 runs was shattered.
Warner scored a brisk 52 runs off 35 balls, but his dismissal was followed by Shaw's departure after scoring 43 runs off 27 balls.
Delhi's captain Rishabh Pant failed to bat as per his usual standards today. Despite Marsh's quick departure, Delhi didn't feel the pressure. Pant scored 52 runs off 32 balls.
Till the end of 20 overs, Delhi lost 5 wickets, accumulating 191 runs.
On the bowling front for Chennai, Mathias Pathiran took the most wickets, with 3 in total. Mustafizur gave away 47 runs in 4 overs but managed to take a wicket.
