Dhanajaya de Silva, Kamindu and bowlers help Sri Lanka hit back

Due to insufficient light, play was stopped on the second day of the third Test, leaving Sri Lanka 114 runs behind England in their first innings. Sri Lanka will resume their innings on the third day, starting with 211 runs for the loss of 5 wickets.

On the second morning, Sri Lankan bowlers took 7 wickets for just 64 runs from the English side. England had lost 3 wickets for 221 runs at that point, and it seemed they might set a high total. However, England was bowled out for just 325 runs, adding only 64 more runs to their total.

For Sri Lanka, Milan Rathnayake took 3 wickets, while Fernando, Lahiru Kumara, and Dhananjaya de Silva each took 2 wickets.

In their first innings, Sri Lanka lost opener Dimuth Karunaratne to a run-out early on. They lost their second wicket at 70 runs. Kushal Mendis was dismissed for 14 runs, caught by Harry Brook off a Chris Woakes delivery. Ollie Stone then took two quick wickets.

Patum Nissanka, who had been holding one end, was out after scoring 64 runs from 51 balls. Sri Lanka was under pressure, losing 5 wickets for just 93 runs after Dinesh Chandimal's dismissal. However, Dhananjaya de Silva and Kamindu Mendis put on a crucial partnership of 118 runs to end the day.

Dhananjaya de Silva remained unbeaten with 64 runs and Kamindu Mendis with 54 runs. Their partnership helped Sri Lanka reach 211 runs from 93 runs. They shared a 118-run stand off 173 balls. Sri Lanka still trails by 114 runs behind England in their first innings.

For England, Ollie Stone took 2 wickets, while Chris Woakes and Josh Hall each took 1 wicket. England has already secured the series with victories in 2 of the 3 Tests against Sri Lanka.
