Dhaka Capitals’ Losing Streak Continues as Chittagong Kings Secure Victory
Dhaka Capitals seem unable to find their way out of the losing streak, suffering their fifth consecutive defeat in the ongoing BPL. Despite a brilliant 82-run innings from Sabbir Rahman, which included 9 sixes and 3 fours off just 33 balls, Dhaka's efforts were overshadowed by another loss.
The new BPL franchise, Dhaka Capitals, has not shown much promise in their five matches so far. In this game, they posted a total of 177 runs, but Chittagong Kings comfortably chased it down, winning with 3 balls and 7 wickets remaining. This victory marked the Kings’ second win in three matches.
Sabbir Rahman’s explosive innings of 82 runs provided a strong challenge for the Kings. Early wickets, including those of openers Jason Roy, number three batter Stephan Eskenazi, and Shahadat Hossain Dipu, left Dhaka in trouble. However, Sabbir and Tamim Iqbal stabilized the innings, adding 63 runs together. Sabbir and Tanjid Hasan, who scored 54 off 48 balls, built a partnership, showing resilience.
After the departure of captain Thisara Perera for just 1, Sabbir continued to fight, adding another 30 runs with Formanullah, who contributed 10 runs from 9 balls. Sabbir’s remarkable knock of 82 runs was the highlight for Dhaka, but it wasn't enough to secure victory. Khaled Ahmed of Chittagong Kings was the most successful bowler of the day, taking 3 wickets for just 21 runs in his 4 overs.
Chasing a target of 178 runs, Chittagong Kings got off to a flying start. The openers added 55 runs in the first 6 overs without losing a wicket. However, Parvez Hossain Imon was dismissed for 17 runs, breaking the opening partnership. Usman Khan and Graham Clark then shared a solid 51-run partnership. Usman Khan was particularly aggressive, scoring 55 runs off 25 balls before being dismissed.
Despite a crucial breakthrough from Dhaka’s Mustafizur Rahman, Chittagong Kings continued to march towards victory. Graham Clark, who contributed 39 runs from 32 balls, was dismissed, but with captain Mohammad Mithun and Shamim Hossain Patowary at the crease, Chittagong Kings secured a comfortable victory.
This result leaves Dhaka Capitals still searching for their first win in this year’s BPL, while Chittagong Kings celebrate another solid performance.
