Dhaka Capitals’ Batting Failure Leads to Humiliating Defeat as Fortune Barishal Complete Hexa Mission
Dhaka Capitals' batting collapse has raised questions—has the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium returned to its previous state of despair for the Dhaka side? Their batsmen's helplessness and the dominance of Fortune Barishal’s bowlers resulted in a shocking new record: Dhaka Capitals were bowled out for just 73 runs, the lowest total of the season. With 81 balls to spare, Fortune Barishal won by 9 wickets, completing their sixth consecutive victory in this year’s BPL.
By bowling Dhaka out for 80 runs, Fortune Barishal secured a huge 9-wicket win. This victory allowed them to complete their 'Hexa Mission' and finally overtake Rangpur Riders to top the points table. Fortune Barishal now have 18 points from 11 matches, while Rangpur, with 16 points and 8 wins, dropped to second place.
Dhaka now holds the unfortunate record of being bowled out for the lowest score of the season—73 runs, surpassing even the earlier record set by Durbar Rajshahi. In the powerplay (first 6 overs), they managed only 28 runs while losing 3 wickets, setting the tone for their batting disaster. Throughout the innings, no Dhaka batter was able to find any rhythm or comfort on the pitch at Mirpur.
Captain Thisara Perera, in an attempt to stabilize the innings, tried to rebuild with Ronsford Beaton, but their efforts proved futile. Only three of Dhaka's players managed to reach double digits, with Perera top-scoring 15 runs before being the last batter to fall. Ronsford Beaton contributed 10 runs, while opener Liton Das could only muster 10 runs early in the innings.
Chasing down the easy target, Fortune Barishal’s openers got off to a brilliant start. However, the spectators’ hopes for a competitive match were dashed when Taohid Hridoy was dismissed for 15 runs, giving Dhaka their only breakthrough, courtesy of Mustafizur Rahman. From there, the partnership between Tamim Iqbal and David Malan saw Fortune Barishal comfortably seal the victory and rise to the top of the points table.
