In the Super Eight match against Bangladesh, Pat Cummins achieved a hat-trick, marking the first hat-trick of the 2024 T20 World Cup. This was the seventh hat-trick in the history of the T20 World Cup. Cummins became the second Australian after Brett Lee to achieve a hat-trick against Bangladesh. Cummins mentioned that he wasn’t aware he was on the verge of a hat-trick. According to him, the most significant wicket was that of Towhid Hridoy.

Pat Cummins was named the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year for 2023. Within hours of receiving the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy, Cummins set another record in the World Cup by taking a hat-trick in the Super Eight match against Bangladesh in Antigua. This was the first hat-trick of the current World Cup, with Cummins dismissing Mahmudullah Riyad, Sheikh Mahedi, and Towhid Hridoy.

Receiving the Man of the Match award, Cummins said, "I had no idea (about the hat-trick), then I saw it on the screen. The set batter, building a big innings, you never know how it will turn out, so it was a big wicket (Hridoy’s wicket) and I’m happy we could restrict them. The goal was to win and we’ve kept up our good run rate, we need to maintain this momentum going forward in the Super Eights."

Cummins came to bowl in the 18th over, taking two consecutive wickets on the fifth and sixth balls. Mahmudullah Riyad and Sheikh Mahedi fell victim to Cummins' pace. He then claimed the wicket of Towhid Hridoy, who was on 40 runs, with the first ball of the 20th over. By taking wickets on the last two balls of one over and the first ball of the next, Cummins completed his hat-trick.

Australia began the Super Eight stage with a dominant victory against Bangladesh. Bangladesh could only score 140 runs, losing 8 wickets in an innings that included 51 dot balls. This target seemed insignificant to Australia’s openers. Warner and Head's opening partnership scored 59 runs in the first 6 overs. The match was then interrupted several times due to rain, and did not go to the full allotted overs. Despite the rain interruptions, Australia won the match.

Before the rain interruption, Australia had scored 100 runs in 11.2 overs. Warner and Maxwell’s aggressive batting ensured that Australia was 28 runs ahead of Bangladesh on the DLS method. As the rain did not stop, Mitchell Marsh's team secured their first win in the Super Eights by this margin.
