Chattogram Test: Early Wickets for Bangladesh Despite Losing the Toss
Bangladesh captain's luck at the toss did not favor him in Chattogram. Zimbabwe, opting to bat first after winning the toss, scored 89 runs in the opening session of Day 1, losing two wickets to Bangladesh. Debutant Tanzim Hasan Sakib sparked celebrations with his maiden Test wicket early on.
In the first session of the Chattogram Test at the Bir Sreshtho Matiur Rahman Stadium, Zimbabwe lost two wickets. Tanzim Sakib marked his debut with the wicket of opener Brian Bennett, while Taijul Islam provided another breakthrough. Despite the loss of their openers, number three batter Nick Welch and veteran Sean Williams have kept Zimbabwe’s innings steady.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz almost had a breakthrough in the 8th over of the innings. In what could have been a simple catch at first slip, Sadman Islam dropped Ben Curran when he was on 11. However, Curran could not capitalize for long and was bowled by Taijul Islam for 21, breaking a developing partnership.
Earlier, Tanzim Sakib got his first Test wicket when Brian Bennett edged a catch to wicketkeeper Zakir Ali Anik. Sakib didn’t have to wait long to celebrate on his debut, as he broke Zimbabwe’s opening stand.
At lunch, Zimbabwe stood at 89 for 2 in 28 overs. Nick Welch remained unbeaten on 32 off 53 balls, while Sean Williams was not out on 6 off 34 deliveries.
