Chattogram Batting Collapse Hands Rangpur an Easy Win
The fifth match of the Bangladesh Premier League at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium turned into a tale of frustration for Chattogram Royals. Repeated failures with both bat and ball saw them suffer an easy seven-wicket defeat to Rangpur Riders.
After winning the toss, Rangpur Riders opted to bowl first—a decision that paid immediate dividends. Chattogram’s innings got off to a poor start as English wicketkeeper-batter Adam Rossington was dismissed for just 1 run. At the other end, opener Mohammad Naim offered some resistance, playing an aggressive knock of 39 runs off 20 balls, which included seven fours and one six.
However, once Naim was dismissed, Chattogram’s batting completely lost its way. Mirza Tahir Baig scored 20 off 24 balls but failed to convert his start into a substantial innings. The middle order crumbled as Mahmudul Hasan Joy (0), Mahfijul Islam (1), and captain Mahedi Hasan (1) fell cheaply, leaving the side struggling to build any momentum.
Lower down the order, Abu Hider contributed 13 off 21 balls and Tanvir Islam added 6 off 8, but the total never gained much traction. Chattogram Royals were eventually bowled out for 102 in 17.5 overs.
Rangpur’s bowling was led superbly by Faheem Ashraf, who turned the match on its head with a brilliant spell of 5 wickets for just 17 runs in 3.5 overs. He received strong support from Mustafizur Rahman, who picked up two wickets, and Sufiyan Muqeem, who claimed one.
Chasing a modest target of 103, Rangpur Riders showed no signs of urgency. Opener Dawid Malan anchored the chase with a composed 51 off 48 balls, hitting five fours and two sixes. At the other end, Litton Das played a fluent innings of 47 off 31 balls, striking at well over 150.
Their partnership effectively took the game away from Chattogram. Although Towhid Hridoy (1 off 3 balls) and Mahmudullah (1 off 4 balls) departed in quick succession, the result was never in doubt. Khushdil Shah finished the chase with an unbeaten 6 off 4 balls.
Rangpur Riders reached 107 for 3 in 15 overs, sealing a comfortable seven-wicket victory with 30 balls to spare.
