Career-Best Bowling from Tanzim Sakib Restricts South Africa to a Modest Tota
Despite a shaky start, losing 4 wickets for just 23 runs, Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller helped South Africa set a target of 114 runs for Bangladesh on the challenging pitch in New York.
On Monday night, at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, South African captain Aiden Markram won the toss and opted to bat first.
As they took to the batting crease, Quinton de Kock smashed Tanzim Hasan Sakib for a boundary and a six in the first over. However, on the final delivery of that over, Reeza Hendricks was trapped LBW by Tanzim Hasan Sakib, departing for a duck.
Taskin Ahmed bowled a controlled second over. In the third over, Tanzim Sakib's second, the dangerous Quinton de Kock was dismissed after scoring 18 runs off 11 balls, which included 2 sixes and 1 four.
In the following over, Taskin bowled Aiden Markram, and without adding any further runs, Tristan Stubbs was caught by Shakib Al Hasan off Tanzim Sakib, giving him his third wicket. South Africa's score was then 23 for 4.
Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller then steadied the innings, countering the initial collapse with a solid partnership. They rotated the strike well and occasionally attacked the Bangladeshi bowlers. The pair could have been separated earlier if Litton Das had not dropped a catch off Mahmudullah's bowling.
Ultimately, Taskin broke the 79-run partnership by dismissing Klaasen for 46 runs off 44 balls. After Klaasen's dismissal, David Miller fell to leg-spinner Rishad Hossain, scoring 29 runs off 38 balls. South Africa finished their innings at 113 for 6 in 20 overs.
For Bangladesh, Tanzim Hasan Sakib delivered a career-best performance, taking 3 wickets for 18 runs in 4 overs. Taskin Ahmed took 2 wickets for 19 runs. Rishad Hossain was somewhat expensive, conceding 32 runs for 1 wicket. Mustafizur Rahman bowled economically, giving away 18 runs in 4 overs but remained wicketless.
