Bangladeshi entrepreneurs, New Owners of LPL Team

The ownership of the franchise in the upcoming season of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) is changing hands in Dambulla. Now, the ownership of the franchise will be held by two entrepreneurs from Bangladesh, Tamim Rahman and Golam Rakib, of the Imperial Sports Group.

Tamim Rahman and Golam Rakib have been successful in their business ventures in the United Kingdom.

Tamim Rahman, co-founder of the Imperial Sports Group, shared his vision for the future, stating: "We are thrilled to be diving into this exciting journey of the Lanka Premier League. Our main goal is to create a team that exemplifies spirit, skill, and passion for the game, captivating and inspiring cricket enthusiasts worldwide."

Echoing Tamim Rahman's sentiments, co-founder Golam Rakib expressed, "Our vision for Dambulla Thunder extends beyond mere competition to reach the pinnacle. We are committed to making a lasting impact on the local talent pool and the community in Sri Lanka. We are here to win, celebrate the true essence of cricket, and make our fans proud."

Anil Mohan, founder and CEO of IPG Group, the current LPL rights holder, welcomed the new ownership, stating, "We are excited to welcome the Imperial Sports Group and its leaders, Tamim Rahman and Golam Rakib, to the Lanka Premier League family. Their arrival with Dambulla Thunder marks a new and exciting chapter for our league. We eagerly anticipate the fresh energy and innovative approaches they will bring to the tournament."

The Lanka Premier League 2024 will kick off from July 1 to July 21.
