Bangladesh Women’s A Team Experiences a T20-Style ODM in Colombo
Ahead of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup, Bangladesh Women's A team is touring Sri Lanka for a series of ODMs and T20s. Most of the squad, led by Rabeya Khan, consists of regulars from the national team, making this tour a crucial part of their World Cup preparation.
The first ODM in Colombo was washed out due to rain, and rain interfered in the second ODI as well, reducing the 50-over game to a 20-over match.
Winning the toss at the Thurstan College Ground in Colombo, Sri Lanka Women's A team opted to bat first. They managed to score 113 runs for 5 wickets in their 20 overs. Captain Sathya Sandeepani top-scored with 36 runs.
For Bangladesh Women's A, captain Rabeya Khan and Fahima Khatun took two wickets each.
Chasing a modest target, Bangladesh Women’s A team had little trouble securing the win. Despite losing opener Shamima Sultana for 1 run via a run-out, the other opener, Dilara Akter, played a crucial knock of 47 runs off 34 balls, hitting 3 fours and 2 sixes.
Murshida Khatun, batting at number three, contributed 30 runs, while captain Nigar Sultana Jyoti remained unbeaten with 24 off 21 balls, hitting 4 boundaries. Ritu Moni stayed not out with 11 runs.
Bangladesh Women's A team clinched the victory with 12 balls and 7 wickets in hand.
The five-match T20 series between the two teams is set to begin on September 12. The matches will be played at four different venues in Colombo on September 12, 13, 15, 17, and 19.
