Bangladesh Insulted by Ashwin’s Scathing Remarks
Bangladesh Insulted by Ashwin’s Scathing Remarks
Ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup, controversial remarks from former Indian cricketers against Bangladesh have resurfaced. This time, it was ex-off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin who added fuel to the fire with blunt comments on his YouTube channel. According to him, India has “no real competition” in the tournament, and dismissively added, “There’s nothing to even talk about Bangladesh.”
Ashwin argued that the current format of the Asia Cup has become uncompetitive. Suggesting an alternative, he said: “South Africa could be included. An Afro-Asia Cup would at least bring competitiveness. Otherwise, even India’s ‘A’ team would provide more challenge than playing Bangladesh.”
India has been in dominant form in T20 cricket recently, winning 17 of their last 20 matches. Especially after their 2024 World Cup triumph, the team has looked unstoppable. For Ashwin, therefore, lifting the Asia Cup is “nothing more than a formality” for India.
He further remarked: “There’s a lot of talk about Afghanistan’s bowlers. But if India scores beyond 170, no team has the batting depth to match India. There’s simply no chance.” Ashwin added that only if some underdog pulls off a shocking title win, the Asia Cup might regain its competitive edge; otherwise, he sees it as a one-sided affair.
India will kick off their campaign on Wednesday in Dubai against hosts UAE. But even before the first ball is bowled, Ashwin’s comments have already sparked heated debate.
