Australia Dominates Pakistan in Rain-Interrupted T20I to Win by 29 Runs
After losing the home ODI series, Australia bounced back with a commanding victory in the opening T20I against Pakistan. In a rain-affected match in Brisbane, the hosts defeated Pakistan by 29 runs. Australia maintained complete control throughout the game, thanks to a storming performance from Glenn Maxwell with the bat and exceptional bowling displays.
The match was delayed by nearly three hours due to rain and thunderstorms, and as a result, it was reduced to just 7 overs per side. Australia won the toss and chose to bat first. However, the opening partnership faltered early, with Matthew Short and Mackenzie McGarck both dismissed for low scores of 7 and 9, respectively.
Once Maxwell walked in, he took charge of the game, attacking the Pakistani bowlers from the word go. With boundary after boundary and several over-boundaries, Maxwell played at a whirlwind pace. He was eventually dismissed for 43 runs off 19 balls, caught by Usman Khan off the bowling of Abbas Afridi. His knock included 5 fours and 3 sixes. In the final stages, Marcus Stoinis added a quick cameo, scoring 21 runs off just 7 balls, helping Australia to a massive total of 93/4 in their allotted 7 overs.
Chasing a target of 94 in just 7 overs, Pakistan’s batting crumbled under pressure. They lost 5 wickets for only 16 runs, and the match was effectively over. Only some lower-order resistance from Abbas Afridi (20), Habibullah Khan (12), and Shaheen Afridi (11) helped reduce the margin of defeat. Pakistan finished their innings with 64 runs from 9 wickets, handing Australia a dominant 29-run victory.
For Australia, Xavier Bartlett and Nathan Ellis each claimed 3 wickets, while Adam Zampa took 2 wickets. Glenn Maxwell was named the Player of the Match for his explosive 43-run knock.
Australia’s dominant performance in this rain-affected match marked a strong start to their T20 series against Pakistan.
