Aqib Ilyas will lead Oman in T20 World Cup 2024

Oman has announced its squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, with all-rounder Aqib Ilyas appointed as captain, leading a 15-member squad.

Despite losing the former vice-captain Zeeshan Maqsood, he retains his place in the team. Maqsood led Oman in the 2021 T20 World Cup.

Upon being appointed captain, Aqib Ilyas said, "I feel truly honored to be considered worthy of captaincy. It's a huge responsibility, and I aim to gift the team victories. We are prepared for the World Cup; having played in the ACC Premier Cup, we are in good form."

Eight members from the 2021 T20 World Cup squad have been retained. The bowling lineup will be spearheaded by Bilal Khan. Additionally, Kalimullah and Fayaaz Butt are included. Off-spinning all-rounder Shakil Ahmed is a new addition to the team, partnering with Aqib and Zeeshan.

The batting responsibility lies with Kashyap Prajapati and Naseem Khushi. Ayan Khan is the wicketkeeper.

Aqib Ilyas (c), Zeeshan Maqsood, Kashyap Prajapati, Pratik Athavale (wk), Ayaan Khan, Shoaib Khan, Mohammad Nadeem, Naseem Khushi (wk), Mehran Khan, Bilal Khan, Rafiullah, Kaleemullah, Fayyaz Butt, Shakeel Ahmad.

Reserve Players:Jatinder Singh, Samay Shrivastava, Sufyan Mehmood, Jay Odedra. 

Oman will play in Group B, along with Australia, England, Namibia, and Scotland. Oman will kick off their World Cup campaign on June 2 in Barbados.
