Afghanistan Makes Squad Change in World Cup Due to Injury
After the good news of securing a spot in the ICC T20 World Cup Super Eight, Afghanistan has also given their fans some bad news. Due to injury, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, a key spin bowler for Afghanistan, has been ruled out of the World Cup. Hazratullah Zazai has been included in the squad in his place.
By delivering an outstanding performance in the ongoing T20 World Cup, Afghanistan has surpassed New Zealand to secure a place in the Super Eight from Group 'C'. Rashid Khan's team is at the top of the points table with 6 points from 3 matches.
Afghanistan has one more match left in the group stage, but Mujeeb Ur Rahman has already been ruled out of the World Cup before playing that match.
Mujeeb had been suffering from a finger injury. He had injured his right index finger several times. However, this time, his finger was sprained due to the injury, and the right-handed spinner will not be able to play any further. Although he played in Afghanistan’s first World Cup match against Uganda, he did not play in the subsequent matches.
Instead of replacing the right-handed spinner with another bowler, Afghanistan has called up left-handed opener Hazratullah Zazai. Zazai has not played any T20 matches since February, but the Afghanistan management has shown confidence in him.
Afghanistan will play their last group stage match against the West Indies. After that, in the Super Eight, their opponents will be one among India, Australia, and either Bangladesh or the Netherlands.
