Adam Zampa revealed why he said 'NO' to IPL

Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa has withdrawn himself from the upcoming IPL (Indian Premier League) season. While the news is old, the recent revelation behind it comes directly from Zampa. The leggie prioritized his physical and mental health, a significant move considering Australia had a long list of fixtures, including matches in the 2023 World Cup.

Zampa was slated to play for Rajasthan Royals in the 2024 IPL season. Last year, he played eight matches for the franchise, averaging 23.5 with eight wickets. However, he ensured his non-participation in the tournament before its commencement.

Even in the upcoming season, Zampa could have played a crucial role for Rajasthan. The demands for leg-spinners are high, but Zampa prioritized his mental well-being as much as his physical health. With the T20 World Cup looming ahead, representing Australia and being fit for the field is his priority. Consequently, he's been spending more time with his family, filling the void left by international cricket.

In a podcast interview, Zampa expressed his thoughts, "The most important thing was the year of the World Cup. I've really felt a bit burnt out since 2023." Last year, Zampa played 23 ODIs and 8 T20Is, including matches in the Big Bash League (BBL).

"I played the entire IPL last year. Of course, three months later, there was the World Cup in India. I really wanted to play the IPL this time. However, there came a time when I realized I couldn't do that for Rajasthan Royals. Looking towards the World Cup, this mattered more to me. There is no doubt about it," he added.

Zampa has played three T20 World Cups so far, picking up 23 wickets at an average of 13.3. His best performance was during the 2021 World Cup, where he claimed 13 wickets at an average of 12.07.
