Aaqib Javed Appointed as Pakistan's Interim White-Ball Head Coach
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed former fast bowler and World Cup-winning team member, Aaqib Javed, as the interim head coach of Pakistan’s national team for white-ball formats. The appointment was made today, November 18, 2024. Aaqib will serve in this capacity until the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025.
During this period, Aaqib will continue his responsibilities as a senior member of the national selection committee, and additional duties will be assigned to him after the conclusion of this eight-team tournament.
Alongside this, the PCB has announced that it will initiate the process of appointing a permanent white-ball head coach, which is expected to be completed before the ICC Champions Trophy (scheduled from February 19 to March 9, 2025).
The position of white-ball coach became vacant after Gary Kirsten’s resignation. The red-ball head coach, Jason Gillespie, had recently served as the team’s coach during their tour of Australia and will rejoin the squad for the upcoming two-Test series in South Africa.
The Pakistan men's team will play three ODIs and three T20 matches in Zimbabwe from November 24 to December 5. Additionally, they will play an equal number of white-ball games in South Africa from December 10 to 22. As part of their preparations for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, Pakistan will host a tri-nation ODI series against New Zealand and South Africa from February 8 to 14, 2025.
