Pakistan into Super Eight after thrashing Namibia by 102 runs
Pakistan national cricket team confirmed their place in the Super Eight of the Twenty20 World Cup as the final qualifying side. In a must-win Group A encounter at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo, they defeated Namibia by a comprehensive 102-run margin to secure a spot in the last eight.
Batting first, Pakistan posted 199 runs in their allotted 20 overs. Opener Sahibzada Farhan laid the foundation for victory with a superb knock. He struck his maiden international century, remaining unbeaten on 100 off 58 balls, an innings that included 11 fours and four sixes. He reached the three-figure mark in the final over of the innings.
Captain Salman Agha contributed a valuable 38 runs. Toward the end, Shadab Khan added late momentum, staying unbeaten on 36 and smashing two sixes in the final over to lift the total to a commanding score.
Chasing 200, Namibia made a promising start. Opener Louren Steenkamp scored a quick 23, but the African side then began losing wickets at regular intervals.
Shadab Khan also maintained control with the ball, taking 3 wickets for just 19 runs. He dismissed Namibia captain Gerhard Erasmus and had Alexander Busing-Volschenk stumped for 20.
Spinner Usman Tariq produced career-best figures, claiming 4 wickets for 16 runs to wrap up the tail. Namibia were eventually bowled out for 97.
With this victory, Pakistan secured their place in the Super Eight. Namibia, meanwhile, finished bottom of the group and ended their World Cup campaign without a single win.
