Dasun Shanaka Banned from PSL for One Year
An unfortunate development surrounding the Pakistan Super League (PSL) has ultimately led to a strict disciplinary decision. Sri Lankan star Dasun Shanaka, who was expected to play for Lahore Qalandars, will not be able to participate in the upcoming edition of the Pakistan Super League, according to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
The PCB stated that Shanaka’s unilateral withdrawal from the tournament on March 21, 2026, amounted to a breach of contract. After reviewing the matter, the board concluded that it was a clear violation of the player registration terms and the tripartite agreement. As a result, disciplinary action was deemed necessary to uphold the regulations of the PSL.
However, alongside the decision, the PCB also took note of Shanaka’s personal remorse. During the hearing, he admitted his mistake and extended an apology to the people of Pakistan, PSL fans, and supporters of Lahore Qalandars.
Shanaka said he deeply regretted his decision to withdraw from the PSL. He added that he has always enjoyed Pakistan’s cricketing environment and the love of the fans, and he hopes to return to the league in the future.
Overall, the incident highlights the strict enforcement of professional standards within the PSL, while also reflecting the player’s regret, adding a human dimension to the situation. However, as per the PCB’s decision, Dasun Shanaka will remain ineligible for PSL 12.
