Matthew Fisher Awaits ODI Debut on West Indies Tour
New Zealand have begun their long-term planning and preparations for the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup by announcing a 16-member squad for the upcoming five-match ODI series against the West Indies.
The biggest talking point in the squad is the inclusion of 26-year-old fast bowler Matthew Fisher, who has earned his maiden ODI call-up following an impressive run in domestic cricket. Fisher has already represented New Zealand in one Test—against Zimbabwe in 2025—and one T20 International—against Bangladesh in April 2026—but is yet to make his ODI debut.
Star pacer Jacob Duffy has also returned to the ODI squad after missing the Test series against England due to the birth of his first child. This will be his first international appearance since the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup final in March.
Meanwhile, Devon Conway has been ruled out of the tour following the birth of his second child, while Rachin Ravindra will miss the series because of his Major League Cricket commitments in the United States. Experienced fast bowler Matt Henry has also been rested for the series.
Led by Mitchell Santner, New Zealand’s tour of the West Indies will begin with the first ODI in Guyana on July 11. The opening three matches of the series will be played in Guyana, while the final two ODIs will take place in Barbados.
New Zealand ODI Squad:
Mitchell Santner (captain), Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Kristian Clarke, Jacob Duffy, Matthew Fisher, Dean Foxcroft, Mitch Hay, Nick Kelly, Tom Latham, Jayden Lennox, Daryl Mitchell, Henry Nicholls, Ben Sears, Nathan Smith and Will Young.
