United Arab Emirates captain Muhammad Waseem has been fined 15 percent of his match fee and handed one demerit point for commenting on the umpiring during the second T20I against Nepal in Kirtipur.
Waseem was dismissed lbw on the very first ball of the match. He immediately expressed his dissatisfaction, indicating that the delivery was going down the leg side. He later questioned the umpiring again during the post-match presentation ceremony. UAE lost the match by eight wickets.
This is Waseem’s first offence in the past 24 months. He was found guilty of a Level 1 breach under Article 2.7 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which relates to criticism of match officials. Such offences carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum penalty of 50 percent of a player’s match fee, along with one or two demerit points.
On-field umpires Buddhi Pradhan and Vinay Kumar, third umpire Durga Subedi, and fourth umpire Sanjay Sigdel brought the charge.
Waseem admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Wendell Labrooy, eliminating the need for a formal hearing.
